Basketball Free Throw Challenge 2017

The Knights of Columbus are again proud to sponsor their annual basketball free throw competition for 2017 on Sunday, January 29th. This event will be held in the Parish Center with registration from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. The competition will be held from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The competition is open for all boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 14 as of January 1st. Participants compete in separate categories by age and gender. A copy of each participant’s birth certificate is required. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each age group. Also, winners from our council competition have the opportunity to move on to a district competition, and then regional and state competitions. Refreshments will also be provided.

Please email our Youth Director, Kevin Weaver, at if you have questions. We look forward to seeing you there!

Bishop John Barres of Allentown, Penn., a former collegiate basketball player at Princeton University, is a strong supporter of the Free Throw Championship. He sees the focus and discipline required to achieve athletic excellence as being valuable in the faith formation and character development of young people. In addition, healthy competition helps young people to handle both good fortune and adversity with grace and dignity.  Below is a short video of Bishop Barres discussing the virtues of both the Free Throw Championship and the Soccer Challenge.
