Daily Prayer for December

Worthy Brothers:

As a next step in our effort to advance the Spirituality of our Council, below is a suggested prayer for next month.  Please consider joining us in praying faithfully every day in December at 3 PM:

Pray aloud or silently as circumstances permit.

Try not to miss, but if you miss our noon to 3 p.m. window, simply pray later that day.   Use a habit like grace before meals as a reminder. As in all things: Keep the Faith.  The second core principle of the Knights of Columbus is Unity.  Let this daily prayer said by us in concert be a powerful witness and support of that unity.

Let us pray:

The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.

And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.

(Hail Mary full of grace … )

Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

(Hail Mary full of grace … )

And the Word was made flesh.

                   And dwelt among us.

(Hail Mary full of grace … )

Pray for us O Holy Mother of God.

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:  Pour forth we beseech Thee, O Lord,

Thy grace into our hearts;

That we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son,

was made known by the message of an angel,

may by His Passion and Cross,

be brought to the glory of His Resurrection

through the same Christ our Lord.  Amen.

and

Incline my heart, according to your Will, O God.

Speed my steps along Your Path, according to your Will, O God. (from Liturgy of the Hours)

This prayer “The Angelus” was a fixture of medieval peasant life embodied in the famous painting by Jean-Francois Millet.  It was faithfully prayed at 6 am, noon, and 6 pm when church bells rang and all work stopped.  We pray it during Advent as a reminder that the Incarnation Mystery extends beyond the nativity of Jesus – from Mary’s fiat to His Passion, death and Resurrection.  The Incarnation Mystery is made real and present to us also not just during Christmas season, but every day in the Eucharist.  At some time during the month of December, increase your spirituality by enjoying Handel’s Messiah.

Vivat Jesus!
